🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

This job replaces both front low-beam headlight bulbs on your Camry. On the LE, the low beams are the easiest “headlight bulbs” to replace from behind the headlamp housing. Assumption: low-beam bulbs.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlights off and let the bulbs cool before touching anything.
  • Do not touch the glass part of the new halogen bulbs with bare fingers.
  • If a bulb feels stuck, do not force it. The headlamp housing can crack.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • H11 bulb handling cloth

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Low-beam headlight bulbs - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the headlights off.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and let the engine bay cool down if the car was recently driven.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood and find the bulb backs

  • Release the hood and secure it fully.
  • Look behind each headlamp assembly for the round bulb access cap or cover.
  • Tip: Work on one side at a time.

Step 2: Remove the access cover

  • Use your hands to twist and remove the rear dust cover, or use a Phillips screwdriver if a small fastener is present.
  • Set the cover aside where it will stay clean.

Step 3: Disconnect the bulb connector

  • Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off the bulb.
  • Do not pull on the wires.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Rotate the bulb counterclockwise to unlock it.
  • Pull the bulb straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • Tip: A slight wiggle helps.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Put on gloves and handle the new bulb with a clean cloth.
  • Line up the bulb tabs with the socket and insert it fully.
  • Rotate it clockwise until it locks.

Step 6: Reconnect and test

  • Push the electrical connector back onto the bulb until it clicks.
  • Turn the headlights on and make sure the new bulb lights up.
  • If one side does not work, recheck the connector and bulb seating.

Step 7: Reinstall the cover and repeat on the other side

  • Reinstall the dust cover and make sure it seals fully.
  • Repeat the same steps for the other headlight bulb.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the headlights on low beam and verify both sides work.
  • Check the beam pattern against a wall to make sure both sides look even.
  • If a warning light appears, recheck the connector on the affected side.
