š§ Headlights - Bulb Replacement
On your F-350, the headlight bulbs are accessed from behind each headlamp housing under the hood. The job is mostly about making a little room to reach the bulb, swapping it without touching the glass, and confirming both high and low beams work.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 30-75 minutes
Assumption: Youāre replacing the main headlight bulbs (low/high beam), not fog or marker bulbs.
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Let the headlights cool first; bulbs get extremely hot.
- ā ļø Do not touch the new bulbās glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ā ļø If equipped with HID (xenon) headlights, the system uses high voltage; keep the switch OFF and do not power the lights with parts disconnected.
- ā ļø Keep keys out of the truck so lights donāt auto-turn on.

- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Make room to reach the passenger-side bulb
- Locate the air intake tube/ducting near the passenger-side headlamp.
- Use an 8mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" extension to loosen the intake hose clamp(s) enough to move the tube slightly.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver if a clamp uses a screw head instead of an 8mm hex.
- Gently reposition the tube for hand clearance. Donāt force plastic parts.
Step 2: Remove the passenger-side bulb connector
- Reach behind the passenger headlamp and find the electrical connector on the rear of the bulb.
- Press the connector lock tab with your thumb (or carefully with a flat-blade screwdriver) and pull the connector straight off.
- If thereās a round dust cap, twist it off by hand and set it aside.
Step 3: Remove the passenger-side bulb
- Grip the bulb base (the plastic part), then rotate it counterclockwise to unlock.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the housing.
- Set the old bulb aside on a clean paper towel.
Step 4: Install the new passenger-side bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, insert the new bulb into the housing, aligning the tabs so it sits flush.
- Rotate the bulb clockwise until it locks.
- Reinstall the dust cap (if equipped) by hand.
- Reconnect the electrical connector by pushing it on until it clicks.
Step 5: Make room to reach the driver-side bulb
- Behind the driver-side headlamp, clearance is usually tight near the battery/fuse area.
- Use a flashlight to locate the bulb connector and dust cap.
- If a plastic air duct or cover blocks your hand, carefully release its clips using a flat-blade screwdriver and move it aside.
Step 6: Remove and replace the driver-side bulb
- Remove the connector by pressing the lock tab and pulling straight back (use a flat-blade screwdriver gently if needed).
- Remove the dust cap by hand (if equipped).
- Rotate the bulb counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
- Install the new bulb (gloves on), rotate clockwise to lock, reinstall dust cap, and reconnect the connector until it clicks.
Step 7: Reassemble the intake tube/ducting
- Reposition the passenger-side intake tube back where it was.
- Use an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet (or flat-blade screwdriver) to snug the clamp(s).
Step 8: HID-equipped note (only if your truck has HID/xenon)
- If you see an HID warning label on the headlamp or a metal igniter/module on the bulb, do not force anything.
- Remove and install the bulb the same way (unlock/lock), but handle the base carefully and keep the headlight switch OFF during the entire process.
ā After Repair
- Turn the headlights ON and verify low beam works on both sides.
- Switch to high beam and verify both sides work.
- If a bulb doesnāt light, turn lights OFF and re-check the connector is fully seated and the bulb is locked in place.
- At night, confirm beam aim looks even; if one side looks off, the bulb may not be fully seated.
