🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Replacement
Assumption: This guide covers the low-beam headlight bulbs on your Corolla. If you also want the high beams replaced, the access is similar, but the bulb type and socket location are different.
Replacing both headlight bulbs is a simple DIY job on this car. You work from the engine bay, remove the bulb access covers, swap the bulbs, and reinstall everything carefully so the seals stay tight.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the headlights off and remove the key before starting.
- Let the bulbs cool down first. Halogen bulbs can get very hot.
- Do not touch the glass part of a new bulb with your bare fingers. Oil from skin can shorten bulb life.
- Keep the bulb seals and dust covers clean. A bad seal can let water into the housing.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

- If it is stuck, carefully use needle-nose pliers on the edge of the cover.

Step 3: Disconnect the bulb connector
- Press the tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off the bulb.
- Use a trim removal tool only if the connector is hard to reach.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise with your hand and pull it out of the housing.
- If the bulb has a spring clip on your housing, release it carefully with needle-nose pliers.
- Remove the old bulb from the socket.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Put on latex or nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Install the new bulb into the socket in the same position as the old one.
- Insert the bulb and socket into the housing, then twist clockwise to lock it in place.
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
Step 6: Reinstall the cover and repeat on the other side
- Inspect the dust cover gasket for damage.
- Reinstall the dust cover by turning it clockwise until fully seated.
- Repeat the same steps on the other side.
