📋 Before You Begin

• 🚗 Park your Escape on level ground and switch the headlights off.
• 🔑 Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
• 🧤 Put on nitrile gloves before opening the new bulbs.
• 💡 A halogen bulb is a glass bulb that gets very hot during use, so avoid touching the glass.
• 🧰 Dielectric grease is a non-conductive protective grease used lightly on the rubber seal area to help keep moisture out.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

• Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
• Use your hand to release the safety latch at the front of the hood.
• Raise the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.
• Use a flashlight to look behind each headlight housing.

Step 2: Locate the Low-Beam Bulb Cover

• Use the flashlight to find the round dust cover on the rear of the headlamp housing.
• The low-beam bulb is mounted behind this cover.
• Use a flat trim tool only if needed to gently move nearby plastic shielding for better access.
• Work slowly; space is tight.

Step 3: Remove the Dust Cover

• Use your hand to rotate the round dust cover counterclockwise.
• Pull the cover straight rearward and set it aside on a clean surface.
• Inspect the rubber seal on the cover for cracks or dirt.

Step 4: Disconnect the Old Bulb

• Use your hand to press the locking tab on the electrical connector.
• Pull the connector straight off the rear of the bulb.
• If the connector is tight, use a flat trim tool gently on the connector body, not the wires.
• Do not pull on the wiring harness.

Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to rotate the old H11 bulb counterclockwise.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlamp housing.
• Set the old bulb aside so it cannot roll or break.

Step 6: Install the New Bulb

• Use nitrile gloves to handle the new H11 bulb by the plastic base only.
• Use a clean microfiber cloth if the glass is touched accidentally.
• Apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the bulb seal area only, not the metal terminals or glass.
• Line up the tabs on the bulb with the slots in the housing.
• Insert the bulb straight into the housing.
• Use your gloved hand to rotate the bulb clockwise until it locks in place.
• No torque spec applies; the bulb locks by hand only.

Step 7: Reconnect the Electrical Connector

• Use your hand to push the connector onto the new bulb until the locking tab clicks.
• Lightly tug the connector by the plastic body to confirm it is locked.
• Do not tug the wires.

Step 8: Reinstall the Dust Cover

• Use your hand to place the dust cover back onto the rear of the headlamp housing.
• Rotate the cover clockwise until fully seated.
• Make sure the cover sits flat so moisture cannot enter the headlamp.

Step 9: Repeat on the Other Side

• Use the same steps to replace the second low-beam H11 bulb.
• Use the flashlight to confirm the bulb is fully locked before reinstalling the dust cover.
• Replacing both keeps light color even.

Step 10: Test the Headlights

• Use your hand to switch the headlights on from inside your Escape.
• Check both low beams from the front of the vehicle.
• Use the headlight switch to test high beams separately if needed.
• If one bulb does not light, turn the switch off and recheck the connector lock.
