🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Not Serviceable

Your Prius Three uses factory LED headlamps, so there are no replaceable headlight bulbs. If one side is out, the fix is usually diagnosis of the LED headlamp assembly, fuse, connector, or the entire headlamp unit replacement.

Difficulty Level: Advanced | Estimated Time: 1-2 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • High-voltage hybrid systems are present. Do not open or disturb orange HV wiring.
  • Turn the power off before unplugging any headlamp connector.
  • Let the lamp area cool before touching nearby parts.
  • If replacing a headlamp assembly, disconnect the 12V battery to avoid electrical damage.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Extension bar
  • Trim clip tool
  • Phillips screwdriver

  • If one lamp is out, confirm whether the entire LED headlamp is dead or only one function is affected.
  • Use a multimeter to check the fuse and connector before replacing the assembly.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Verify the failure

  • Use a multimeter to check for power at the headlamp connector.
  • Confirm the left and right sides behave the same.
  • Check the simple stuff first.

Step 2: Remove the front upper cover fasteners

  • Use a 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension bar to remove the upper fasteners and access pieces as needed.
  • Use a trim clip tool to lift plastic clips without breaking them.

Step 3: Disconnect the headlamp connector

  • Press the connector lock and unplug the headlamp harness by hand.
  • Inspect the connector for heat damage, corrosion, or bent pins.

Step 4: Remove the headlamp assembly

  • Use a 10mm socket to remove the headlamp mounting bolts.
  • Carefully pull the lamp forward and out of the vehicle.
  • Do not force the bumper cover.

Step 5: Install the replacement assembly

  • Set the new LED headlamp assembly in place.
  • Start all bolts by hand, then tighten with the 10mm socket.
  • Torque to 7.5 Nm (66 in-lbs).

Step 6: Reconnect and test

  • Reconnect the headlamp connector.
  • Turn the car ON and test low beam, high beam, and turn signal functions if equipped in the housing.
