🔧 Engine Oil and Oil Filter - Replacement
Your Tiguan uses a cartridge-style oil filter and a drain plug service. This job is straightforward if you take your time, keep the engine warm-not-hot, and follow the torque specs closely so you do not crack the filter housing or strip the drain plug.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Work on a level surface and support the vehicle with jack stands. Never rely on a jack alone.
- Engine oil can be very hot. Let the engine cool slightly before draining.
- Use eye protection and gloves. Used oil is messy and can burn skin.
- Keep the ignition off and key away from the vehicle while you work underneath.
- No battery disconnect is required for this service.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

- Use the oil filter cap wrench, 74mm 14-flute to loosen the filter housing cap.
- Remove the old cartridge filter from the cap.
- Replace the O-rings from the new filter kit onto the cap.
- Install the new cartridge filter.

- Use the funnel to add about 5.5 quarts of new engine oil.
- Reinstall the oil filler cap.
- Start the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds.
- Shut the engine off and wait 5 minutes for oil to settle.
Step 6: Check the oil level and inspect for leaks
- Use the dipstick, if equipped, or the dash oil level display if fitted on your Tiguan.
- Add oil in small amounts until the level is correct.
- Inspect the drain plug and filter housing for leaks.
- Do not overfill.
Step 7: Reinstall the lower cover
