🔧 Engine Oil & Oil Filter - Oil Change
Changing the oil and filter keeps the engine clean and helps it last longer. On your Rogue, the job is straightforward, but you need to drain the oil fully, replace the filter, and refill with the correct amount of oil.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Work on a level surface and let the engine cool before draining the oil.
- Use wheel chocks and jack stands. Never rely on a jack alone.
- Engine oil will be hot if the vehicle was recently driven.
- Keep the drain pan stable so hot oil does not splash.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
- Dispose of used oil and the old filter at a proper recycling point.

- Ratchet

- Oil filter - Qty: 1
- Drain plug crush washer - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Shut the engine off and let it cool for 15-30 minutes if it was recently running.
- Gather the new filter, new washer, and enough oil before starting.
- Have the drain pan ready before removing the plug.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise and secure the vehicle
- Use the floor jack to lift the front of the Rogue at the proper jacking point.
- Support it with jack stands under the approved front support points.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Shake the vehicle gently to confirm it is stable.
Step 2: Remove the oil filler cap
- Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap by hand.
- This lets the oil drain faster.
Step 3: Drain the engine oil
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
- Use the 14mm socket and ratchet to loosen and remove the drain plug.
- Let the oil drain completely.
- Install a new drain plug crush washer on the plug.
- Reinstall the drain plug and tighten with a torque wrench to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs).
Step 4: Remove the old oil filter
- Move the drain pan under the oil filter area.
- Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the old filter.
- Remove it by hand once it breaks free.
- Make sure the old rubber gasket comes off with the filter.
- Double-check the old gasket did not stick behind.
Step 5: Install the new oil filter
- Lightly coat the new filter gasket with fresh engine oil.
- Spin the new filter on by hand until the gasket contacts the mounting surface.
- Tighten the filter by hand an additional 3/4 turn.
- Do not use the wrench to overtighten the new filter.
Step 6: Refill the engine with oil
- Use the funnel to add about 4.5 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic engine oil.
- Reinstall the oil filler cap.
- Start the engine and let it run for 30-60 seconds.
- Shut it off and wait 5 minutes for the oil to settle.
Step 7: Check the oil level
- Use the dipstick to check the level.
- Add oil slowly until the level is at or near the full mark.
- Total capacity is about 4.8 quarts with filter, but always finish by dipstick reading.
- Inspect under the vehicle for leaks at the drain plug and filter.
✅ After Repair
- Reset the oil life reminder if your Rogue displays one.
- Check the oil level again after a short drive.
- Look under the vehicle one more time for any oil seepage.
- Dispose of the used oil and filter properly.
