🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise and secure the van
- Use a floor jack to lift the front of the van at the proper lift point.
- Support it with jack stands before getting underneath.
- Shake the van lightly to confirm it is stable.
Step 2: Remove the engine under cover
- Use the appropriate 10mm socket or fastener tool to remove the under cover fasteners.
- Set the cover and fasteners aside in order so they go back in the same places.
Step 3: Drain the old engine oil
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
- Use the 14mm wrench to remove the drain plug.
- Let the oil drain fully, then inspect the drain plug and replace the gasket.
- Torque to 39 Nm (29 ft-lbs) when reinstalling the drain plug.
Step 4: Remove the oil filter
- Move the drain pan under the oil filter housing.
- Use the oil filter wrench (specialty) to loosen and remove the filter housing.
- Remove the old filter element and old O-ring from the housing.
- Expect a little oil spill from the housing.
Step 5: Install the new oil filter
- Install the new filter element into the housing.
- Lightly coat the new O-ring with clean engine oil and install it on the housing.
- Reinstall the housing by hand first, then tighten with the oil filter wrench (specialty).
- Torque to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs).
Step 6: Reinstall the drain plug and under cover
- Reinstall the drain plug with the new gasket using the 14mm wrench.
- Torque to 39 Nm (29 ft-lbs).
- Reinstall the under cover and tighten the fasteners with the correct socket or trim tool.
Step 7: Add new engine oil
- Lower the van back to level ground.
- Use a funnel to add about 6 quarts of SAE 0W-20 full synthetic first.
- Add the remaining oil slowly, then check the dipstick and top off as needed.
Step 8: Start and check for leaks
- Start the engine and let it idle for 30-60 seconds.
- Check the drain plug and oil filter housing for leaks.
- Shut the engine off, wait a few minutes, then recheck the oil level.

- Confirm the oil level sits at the full mark on the dipstick.
- Reset the maintenance reminder if it is on.
- Drive a short distance and recheck for leaks.
- Dispose of used oil and the old filter at a recycling center.
