🔧 Rogue - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
You’ll be replacing the cabin air filter that cleans the air coming through the vents into your Rogue. On this model, the filter sits behind the glove box on the passenger side.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 20–30 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Turn the ignition off and remove the key before starting.
- 🛑 Make sure the blower fan and A/C are switched off so nothing moves while your hands are in the area.
- 🛑 Avoid forcing plastic parts; the glove box and trim can crack if bent too far.
- 🛑 Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from dust and falling debris.
- 🛑 If you have allergies, consider wearing a dust mask when removing the old filter.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Rogue on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn off the ignition and remove the key; make sure all fans and A/C controls are off.
- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out when it tilts down.
- Have the new cabin filter out of the box and note the printed "AIR FLOW" arrow on its side.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and prepare the glove box
- Open the glove box door fully on the passenger side.
- Remove any items from the glove box so you can move it freely.
- Use a flashlight to look along the sides of the glove box for the side stops and the small damper arm on the right.
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- The damper arm is a small plastic link on the right side that controls how fast the glove box drops.
- Gently support the glove box with one hand.
- Use a plastic trim tool to gently pry the damper arm off its peg on the glove box side.
- Work slowly to avoid snapping the damper
Step 3: Lower the glove box
- On each side of the glove box, there is a plastic stop that keeps it from swinging too far down.
- Push the sides of the glove box inward one at a time with your hands to clear these stops from the dashboard opening.
- Once the stops are cleared, carefully let the glove box swing down and hang, exposing the area behind it.
Step 4: Locate the cabin air filter cover
- Behind the lowered glove box, look straight ahead at the plastic HVAC housing (the big black plastic box).
- Near the center-right of that housing, you will see a rectangular plastic cover with small side clips; this is the cabin air filter door.
- Use a flashlight to clearly see the shape and the clips.
Step 5: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Some covers have small tabs you squeeze; others have one side tab you pull.
- Using your fingers or a plastic trim tool, gently press or pry the locking tabs on the sides of the cover.
- Pull the cover straight off and set it aside.
- If your Rogue has a small retaining screw on the cover, remove it first with a Phillips #2 screwdriver and keep the screw safe. Torque on reinstallation: 1.5 Nm (13 in-lbs)
Step 6: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Grasp the exposed edge of the filter and slowly slide it out toward you.
- If it catches on the sides, gently wiggle it while pulling straight out.
- Note the direction of the "AIR FLOW" arrow or any marking on the old filter before discarding it.
- Place the old filter on a clean shop towel to avoid dropping dust in the car.
Step 7: Clean the filter housing area (optional but recommended)
- Use a clean shop towel to gently wipe the inside edges of the filter slot and remove loose dust or leaves.
- Do not push debris deeper into the housing
Step 8: Install the new cabin air filter
- Look at the new filter and find the printed "AIR FLOW" arrow.
- On your Rogue, the cabin air filter air flows from top to bottom, so the arrow should point down when you slide it into the housing.
- Carefully slide the new filter into the slot, keeping it square so it doesn’t bend or fold.
- Push it in until it is fully seated and flush with the housing opening.
Step 9: Reinstall the cabin filter cover
- Position the cover over the opening, making sure it is oriented the same way it came off.
- Press the cover in until the side clips snap securely into place.
- If your cover uses a screw, reinstall it with a Phillips #2 screwdriver and tighten lightly. Torque: 1.5 Nm (13 in-lbs)
- Do not overtighten; it’s only plastic
Step 10: Raise and reattach the glove box
- Lift the glove box back toward its normal position.
- Push the sides of the glove box inward again so the side stops slide back past the dashboard edges and rest in their original position.
- Reconnect the damper arm: align the end of the arm with the peg on the glove box and press it on by hand until it clicks.
- No torque spec is needed here; just a firm push by hand.
Step 11: Final check
- Open and close the glove box several times to confirm it moves smoothly and the damper works.
- Make sure there are no gaps around the glove box and nothing is pinched.
- Return your items to the glove box.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and turn on the blower fan at different speeds to confirm there are no unusual noises near the glove box.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation modes and check that airflow feels normal at the vents.
- If you notice a reduced airflow, double-check that the new filter is fully seated and not folded.
- Plan to replace the cabin air filter about every 12 months, or more often in dusty conditions.
