- Engine oil filter - Qty: 1
- Oil drain plug crush washer - Qty: 1
š Before You Begin
- Park your TITAN on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Chock the rear wheels with wheel chocks.
- Warm the engine for 2-3 minutes, then shut it off and let it cool 10-20 minutes.
- Gather a drain pan that holds at least 10 quarts.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift and support the front
- Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the front safely.
- Set the frame onto jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Give the truck a gentle shake to confirm itās stable. Stable first, then work.
Step 2: Remove the lower cover (if equipped)
- If your TITAN has a front splash shield/undercover, remove fasteners using a 10mm socket.
- Remove any plastic push-clips using a trim clip remover (specialty) (a small forked tool that pops clips out).
- Set the cover and hardware aside in a small pile so nothing gets lost.
Step 3: Drain the engine oil
- Place the drain pan (10-quart minimum) under the oil pan drain plug.
- Loosen the drain plug using a 14mm socket and 3/8" drive ratchet.
- Finish removing the plug by hand (push inward slightly while unthreading, then pull away quickly).
- Let the oil drain until it slows to an occasional drip (typically 5-10 minutes).
Step 4: Reinstall the drain plug with a new crush washer
- Wipe the drain plug area clean using shop rags.
- Install a new oil drain plug crush washer onto the drain plug.
- Thread the plug in by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten using a torque wrench and 14mm socket: Torque to 34 Nm (25 ft-lbs).
Step 5: Remove the oil filter
- Move the drain pan under the oil filter area (oil will spill when the filter comes off).
- Loosen the oil filter using an oil filter wrench (adjustable band type).
- Spin the filter off by hand and keep it upright as you remove it.
- Make sure the old rubber gasket isnāt stuck to the engine (a ādouble gasketā can cause a bad leak).
Step 6: Install the new oil filter
- Wipe the filter mounting surface clean using shop rags.
- Lightly coat the new filterās rubber gasket with fresh oil (use a fingertip).
- Thread the new filter on by hand until the gasket touches, then tighten an additional 2/3 turn by hand. Hand-tight is correct.
- If you must use a wrench to finish, do not over-tighten.
Step 7: Reinstall the lower cover (if removed)
- Reinstall the splash shield/undercover using a 10mm socket.
- Reinstall push-clips using a trim clip remover (specialty) to align them, then press them in.
Step 8: Refill with engine oil
- Lower your TITAN off the stands using the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
- Use a funnel to add 0W-20 full synthetic oil.
- Add most of the oil first, then use the dipstick to bring the level to the top mark (do not overfill). Sneak up on the full mark.
Step 9: Start, check for leaks, and verify level
- Start the engine and let it idle for 30-60 seconds.
- Shut the engine off and look underneath for leaks at the drain plug and oil filter.
- Wait 5 minutes, then check the dipstick and top off as needed using the funnel.
ā After Repair
- Re-check for leaks after your first short drive.
- Reset the oil maintenance reminder on the gauge cluster (if enabled): use the steering-wheel buttons to open Settings > Maintenance > Oil and Filter > Reset.
- Dispose of used oil and the filter at an oil-recycling drop-off location.
