🔧 Sierra 1500 - Engine Oil & Oil Filter Replacement

- Use jack stands if you raise the truck. Never rely on a jack alone.
- Work on level ground and keep the parking brake set.
- Used oil is hazardous. Keep it off the ground and out of drains.

- Turn the ignition off and remove the key or fob from the vehicle.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise and secure the truck
- Use a floor jack to lift the front of the truck at the approved lift points.
- Place jack stands under the frame and lower the truck onto them.
- Shake the truck gently before crawling under it.

- Let the oil drain fully.
- Install the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten it to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs).

- Move the drain pan under the oil filter area.
- Use an oil filter wrench or cap wrench to loosen the filter.
- Spin the filter off by hand once it is loose.
- Check that the old filter gasket came off with the filter.
- Double-check for a stuck old gasket.
Step 5: Install the new oil filter
- Wipe the filter mounting surface clean with a shop towel.
- Lightly coat the new filter gasket with fresh oil.
- Install the new filter by hand until the gasket touches, then tighten it an additional 3/4 turn by hand.
- Do not overtighten.
Step 6: Refill with fresh oil
- Lower the truck to level ground.
- Use a funnel to add 7.5 to 8 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic dexos1.
- Install the oil cap.
- Start the engine and let it run for 30-60 seconds.

- Check the dipstick and top off as needed to reach the full mark.
Step 7: Check for leaks and reset oil life

- If equipped, follow the menu path shown in the cluster for oil life reset.
