  • Install the new battery with the same terminal layout and group size as the original.
  • Keep metal tools away from both battery posts at the same time.
  • Battery disconnect is required.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm wrench
  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Battery terminal brush
  • Battery strap or battery lift handle
  • Safety glasses

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect the negative cable

  • Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp.

  • Keep the cable from touching the battery again.

Step 2: Disconnect the positive cable

  • Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
  • Lift the positive cable off the battery post and move it aside.

Step 3: Remove the battery hold-down

  • Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery hold-down bracket.
  • Keep the bolts in a safe place.

Step 4: Lift out the old battery

  • Use a battery strap or battery lift handle to lift the battery straight up and out.

Step 5: Clean the tray and terminals

  • Use a battery terminal brush to clean corrosion from the cable ends and battery tray.
  • Wipe away loose debris before installing the new battery.
  • Clean connections help prevent starting problems.

Step 6: Install the new battery

  • Set the new battery in the tray with the terminals in the same position as the original.
  • Reinstall the hold-down bracket using a 10mm socket and ratchet.
  • Torque to snug fit only; do not overtighten.

Step 7: Connect the positive cable

  • Install the positive cable first using a 10mm wrench.
  • Tighten the clamp until it is secure.

Step 8: Connect the negative cable

  • Install the negative cable last using a 10mm wrench.
  • Tighten the clamp until it is secure.

Step 9: Apply corrosion protection

  • Spray battery terminal protectant on both terminals and cable ends.
  • Install anti-corrosion washers if used.

✅ After Repair
