🔧 Civic - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and prevents streaking or skipping in rain. On your Civic, this is a quick job: lift the wiper arms, release the blade from the arm, and snap the new blades on securely.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the car before lifting wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield—put a towel on the glass to protect it.
  • ⚠️ Lift the wiper arm gently; don’t force it past its normal hinge range.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Civic on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm area in case the arm slips.
  • Cold rubber can chatter; warm blades work better.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arms

  • Use your hands (gloves recommended) to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the windshield below the arm.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Hold the wiper arm with one hand so it can’t spring down.
  • With your other hand, rotate the wiper blade so you can see the connector where it attaches to the arm.
  • Press the small release tab on the connector, then slide the blade down and off the arm hook.
  • If stuck, wiggle while pressing the tab.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Remove the new blade from packaging and confirm it matches the side (driver vs passenger) by length.
  • Slide the new blade connector onto the wiper arm hook until it clicks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Use your hand to guide the wiper arm back down onto the windshield slowly.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 5: Repeat for the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side wiper blade.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the car and test wipers on LOW, then HIGH, and use washer fluid to confirm smooth wiping.
  • If you see streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
  • Make sure both blades park correctly at the bottom of the windshield.
