šŸ”§ Tucson - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Tucson is a quick job that restores clear visibility and reduces windshield streaking. The main goal is to remove the old blades without letting the spring-loaded wiper arm snap down onto the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Keep a firm grip on the wiper arm—if it snaps down, it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø Do not run the wipers on a dry windshield; use washer fluid for testing.
  • āš ļø If your wipers won’t lift far from the glass, use wiper ā€œservice positionā€ first to avoid hitting the hood edge.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Microfiber towel

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2
  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 24", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

Tip: Confirm lengths printed on old blades.

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Tucson on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the wipers OFF.
  • Put a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm as a safety cushion.
  • If the wiper arms don’t lift up easily, set ā€œservice positionā€ first (puts the wipers up where you can work).

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Set the wipers to service position (if needed)

  • Turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Within about 20 seconds, move and hold the wiper stalk to the MIST (single-wipe) position for ~2 seconds.
  • The wipers should move up the windshield and stop where you can lift them.
  • If this doesn’t work on your Tucson, skip it and carefully lift each arm as far as it allows without forcing it.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Lift the wiper arm away from the glass and hold it steady.
  • Place the microfiber towel under the arm on the windshield.

Step 3: Release the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Look where the blade connects to the arm (this is the ā€œadapterā€). Most Tucson setups use a hook-style connection.
  • Press the small release tab on the adapter using your thumb.
  • If the tab is stubborn, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (use light pressure so you don’t break the plastic).
  • Slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then remove it.

Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Verify the new blade length matches the driver side (either 26" or 24", depending on what your Tucson uses).
  • Hook the new blade adapter into the end of the arm.
  • Pull it into place until you hear/feel a click.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger-side arm and protect the glass with the microfiber towel.
  • Press the release tab and slide the old blade off.
  • Install the new passenger blade (commonly 16") until it clicks, then tug-check it.

Step 6: Return wipers to normal position

  • Lower each arm carefully back onto the windshield.
  • If you used service position, turn ignition ON and tap the wiper stalk once to park the wipers back down.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test with washer fluid: spray and run wipers on low speed for 10–15 seconds.
  • Check for chatter/skipping; if present, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and try again.
  • Confirm both blades park correctly and don’t hit the hood edge.
