🔧 Accord - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Accord is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and clip new blades on in the same orientation.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Do not let the wiper arm snap back onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Lift the wiper arm gently and support it while swapping the blade.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge as the arm is spring-loaded.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 19" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a buffer in case the arm slips.
  • Confirm your new blades include a J-hook adapter (the common hook-shaped wiper arm connector).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm

  • Use your hands (wear nitrile gloves) to lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Set a microfiber towel under the arm area for protection.

Step 2: Remove the old blade from the J-hook

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm.
  • Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the hook.
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (a flat-tip tool used to pry/press clips).
  • Slide the blade down and out of the hook to remove it.
  • Keep one hand holding the arm.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade (26")

  • Hold the new 26" wiper blade so the connector lines up with the hook.
  • Slide the hook into the blade’s adapter until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade by hand to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the driver-side arm carefully

  • Use your hand to guide the arm back down to the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side (19")

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 using the 19" wiper blade on the passenger side.
  • Use the small flathead screwdriver only if the locking tab is tight.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the washers/wipers for a few swipes to confirm smooth, quiet operation.
  • Check that each blade parks correctly at the bottom of the windshield and doesn’t chatter.
  • If there’s streaking, clean the glass with washer fluid and wipe with a microfiber towel.
