How to Replace Front Turn Signal Bulbs on a 2015 Ford F-150
Step-by-step F-150 front turn signal bulb replacement with tools, parts, safety tips, and torque specs

F-150 - Front turn signal bulb replacement 💡
On your 2015 Platinum, the front turn signal bulbs are in the headlamp assembly. You’ll need to pull the headlamp out slightly to access them.
Safety first ⚠️
- 🧤 Park safe: Flat surface, engine off, parking brake on.
- 🔌 Key out: Turn ignition off and remove the key. Lights off.
- 🧊 Cool down: Let the headlamp cool if it was just on; the housing can get hot.
Parts you need 📦
- 💡 Front turn signal bulb: 3157A (amber) – use long-life or OEM-style.
- 💡 Replace in pairs: Do both front turn signals so brightness and color match.
Tools you need 🧰
- 🔧 8 mm socket and ratchet (or nut driver)
- 🔧 10 mm socket and ratchet
- 🔩 Short extension (about 3–6 in) – helps reach bolts
- 🪛 Trim tool or flat plastic pry tool: A plastic tool to gently pry without scratching paint.
- 🧤 Gloves: Nitrile or clean work gloves to keep oils off bulbs and protect your hands.
F-150 - Accessing the headlamp assembly 🔧
You’ll be working from the front with the hood open.
-
Open the hood 🛑
- Pull the hood release inside the cab.
- Release the safety latch at the grille and raise the hood fully.
-
Remove the upper headlamp bolts 🔩
- On top of the headlamp (above the light, under the hood), remove the two 10 mm bolts holding the headlamp to the radiator support.
-
Remove the front grille/trim fasteners (if needed) 😅
- On many 2015 F-150s, you can pull the headlamp out without fully removing the grille, but it’s tight.
- If access is tight, remove the plastic radiator cover clips (plastic push pins) and the 8 mm screws along the top of the grille to give it a little flex.
- Tip: You usually don’t need to fully remove the grille, just loosen the top so the headlamp can slide forward.
-
Remove the lower headlamp bolt 🔩
- Look down behind the headlamp from above; there is a lower 10 mm bolt securing the lamp to the body.
- Use your 10 mm socket with extension to remove it.
-
Release the headlamp from the locating pins 📎
- The headlamp is still held by alignment pins that push into rubber grommets.
- Grip the headlamp at the top and side and pull it straight forward with a firm, steady tug.
- It will feel stuck at first; don’t yank sideways, just straight out.
F-150 - Removing the turn signal bulb 💡
The front turn signal is the lower amber section of the headlamp.
-
Locate the turn signal socket 🔍
- With the headlamp pulled forward, look at the back of the housing.
- The turn signal socket is usually the larger socket near the lower outer corner of the lamp, with two wires going to it.
-
Twist out the socket 🔄
- Grasp the socket and turn it about ¼ turn counterclockwise.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
-
Remove the old bulb 🧤
- Pull the 3157A bulb straight out of the socket.
- If it’s stuck, wiggle gently while pulling.
-
Install the new bulb ✨
- Push the new 3157A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Try not to touch the glass with bare fingers; use gloves or a clean cloth.
-
Reinstall the socket 🔁
- Align the tabs on the socket with the slots in the headlamp.
- Insert the socket and turn it ¼ turn clockwise until it locks.
F-150 - Reinstalling the headlamp 🔩
-
Seat the headlamp in the locating pins 📐
- Line up the rear alignment pins with their rubber grommets in the body.
- Push the headlamp straight back until it clicks into place and sits flush with the fender and grille.
-
Reinstall the bolts 🔧
- Install the lower 10 mm bolt first and snug it down.
- Install the two upper 10 mm bolts.
- Tighten to about 7–9 ft-lb (10–12 N·m) – just snug; don’t overtighten into plastic.
-
Reattach any loosened grille/trim pieces 🧩
- Reinstall the 8 mm screws and plastic push pins for the radiator cover/grille if you removed them.
F-150 - Testing the new bulbs ✅
- 🚗 Turn the ignition to ON (engine can stay off).
- 🔁 Use the turn signal lever for left and right; check both front and rear lamps.
- 🚨 Turn on hazard lights and walk around the truck to confirm all four corners flash normally.
- If the flash rate is very fast, one bulb is still out or not seated correctly.
Tips & tricks for a first-timer 🧠
- 📸 Take a photo of the headlamp and wiring before you start; it helps during reassembly.
- 🧽 Clean the lens edges while the headlamp is loose; easier access now.
- 🧰 Do one side at a time so you can look at the other side as a reference if you get confused.
