šŸ”§ Tucson - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick DIY job that restores clear vision in rain and reduces windshield streaking. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades on in the same orientation.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before lifting the wiper arms.
  • āš ļø Do not let a wiper arm snap back onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø Support each arm with one hand while removing/installing the blade.
  • āš ļø If the arm feels stuck, don’t pry hard—recheck the release tab.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Painter’s tape (1 in.)
  • Small flathead screwdriver (3 mm tip)
  • Clean microfiber towel

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 24", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • šŸ…æļø Park on level ground and make sure the wipers are in their ā€œparkedā€ (down) position.
  • 🧼 Wipe the windshield edge and wiper arms with a microfiber towel so dirt doesn’t scratch the glass.
  • 🟦 Put a strip of painter’s tape (1 in.) on the windshield under each blade location as a visual ā€œsafe spot.ā€

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arms safely

  • Use your hands (no tools) to lift one wiper arm up away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the arm as extra protection.
  • Hold the arm anytime the blade is off.

Step 2: Identify the connector type

  • Look where the blade meets the arm. Most Tucson front blades use a J-hook connector (the arm end looks like a ā€œJā€).
  • If you see a squeeze tab or push button, you may have a pinch-tab/push-button style.
  • We’ll cover both styles below.

Step 3: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)

  • Rotate the blade so it’s about 90° to the arm (use your hands).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade adapter using your thumb, or use the small flathead screwdriver (3 mm tip) gently if it’s stiff.
  • Slide the blade down toward the open end of the ā€œJā€ and unhook it.

Step 4: Remove the old blade (pinch-tab or push-button style)

  • Press the side tabs together with your fingers, or press the button using the small flathead screwdriver (3 mm tip) if needed.
  • Slide the blade straight off the arm.

Step 5: Install the new blade

  • Confirm sizes before installing: 24" driver side and 16" passenger side.
  • For J-hook: hook the new blade onto the arm, then pull it up until you hear/feel a click.
  • For pinch-tab/push-button: slide the new blade on until it clicks and won’t pull back off.
  • Gently tug on the blade (by hand) to confirm it’s locked.

Step 6: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side

  • Carefully lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield using your hand—do not let it drop.
  • Repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front wiper blade.
  • Remove the painter’s tape (1 in.) from the windshield.

āœ… After Repair

  • 🧓 Clean the windshield and wiper rubber with washer fluid.
  • 🚿 Start your Tucson and test the wipers on low speed with washer spray.
  • šŸ” If you see streaks, recheck that each blade ā€œclickedā€ fully onto the arm.
