🔧 Accord - Side View Mirror Replacement
You’ll remove the inside door trim, unplug the mirror wiring, unbolt the mirror from the door, and install the new one. The key is taking your time with plastic clips so nothing cracks, and making sure the wiring connector matches your replacement mirror.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1.0-2.0 hours (one side)
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on level ground with the key out of the ignition.
- ⚠️ Wear safety glasses; door-panel clips can pop loose suddenly.
- ⚠️ Use painter’s tape on the door edge to protect paint while handling the mirror.
- ⚠️ Support the mirror with one hand when removing the last nut so it doesn’t fall and chip paint.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required, but if you’re worried about shorting connectors: disconnect the negative terminal with a 10mm socket.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Accord on level ground, set the parking brake, and lower the window on the door you’re working on.
- Apply painter’s tape along the door edge and near the mirror base on the outside.
- Make sure your replacement mirror matches your old one (power plug shape and any features like heat or turn signal).
- If disconnecting the battery: use a 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal and keep it from touching the post.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the small inner mirror trim (“sail panel”)
- Use a plastic trim removal tool set to gently pry off the triangular trim piece at the front top corner of the door (inside, by the mirror).
- If it has a clip tether or small connector (some do), disconnect it using needle-nose pliers only if needed.
- Pull straight out to avoid cracking it.
Step 2: Remove the door handle bezel trim
- Use a plastic trim removal tool set to pop off the trim bezel behind the interior door handle.
- Remove the exposed screw using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
Step 3: Remove the armrest/door pull screws
- Find the screw(s) in the armrest/door pull area (often under a small cover).
- Pry the cover with a small flathead screwdriver (gently), then remove the screw(s) using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
Step 4: Release the door panel clips and lift the panel off
- Start at the bottom edge of the door panel.
- Use a plastic trim removal tool set (or panel clip pliers (specialty)) to pop the clips free around the sides and bottom.
- Lift the whole panel straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
Step 5: Disconnect switches and cables
- Disconnect the window/lock switch connectors by pressing the tab and pulling apart by hand (use a small flathead screwdriver only to help press a stubborn tab).
- If your Accord uses a mechanical door-handle cable: unhook it from the handle and bracket (take a quick photo first).
Step 6: Unplug the mirror connector
- Locate the mirror wiring connector near the mirror mounting area inside the door.
- Press the lock tab and unplug it by hand.
Step 7: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Support the mirror from the outside with one hand.
- Use a 10mm socket, 6" socket extension, and 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the three mounting nuts.
- If a nut drops inside the door, use a magnetic pickup tool.
Step 8: Remove the old mirror and transfer parts if required
- Pull the mirror away from the door while feeding the wiring through the opening.
- If your replacement mirror does not include a foam gasket or trim piece, transfer it from the old mirror.
Step 9: Install the new mirror
- Feed the wiring through the door opening and seat the mirror flat against the door.
- Thread the nuts on by hand first (prevents cross-threading).
- Tighten the nuts evenly using a 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Final tighten with an inch-pound torque wrench (specialty): Torque to 9 N·m (80 in-lbs).
Step 10: Reconnect wiring and quick-test before reassembly
- Plug in the mirror connector until it clicks.
- If you disconnected the battery, reconnect it using a 10mm socket.
- Turn ignition to ON and confirm mirror adjustment works from the switch.
Step 11: Reinstall the door panel
- Reconnect all door panel connectors and any door-handle cable you removed.
- Hook the top of the door panel onto the window ledge and press down to seat it.
- Press around the edges to snap all clips back in place (replace any broken clips).
Step 12: Reinstall screws and trim pieces
- Reinstall the armrest/door pull screw(s) using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Reinstall the door handle bezel screw using a Phillips screwdriver #2, then snap the bezel back on.
- Snap the sail panel back into place by pressing it straight in.
✅ After Repair
- Verify mirror up/down/left/right adjustment works.
- Verify window, door lock, and door handle work normally.
- Check mirror sits flush and doesn’t wobble while closing the door.
- If the battery was disconnected: reset the clock and perform the power window auto function relearn (hold the window switch down 2 seconds after fully open, then up 2 seconds after fully closed).
