🔧 Corolla - Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Your A4’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming into the heater/AC system. Replacing it helps airflow, reduces odors, and keeps dust/pollen out of the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before working under the dash.
  • ⚠️ Don’t force plastic clips—Toyota interior panels can crack if pried too hard.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Small flat trim tool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Cabin air filter - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Move the passenger seat back to give yourself working room.
  • Have your new filter ready and note the airflow direction arrow on the filter frame.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and empty the glove box

  • Open the glove box and remove everything inside so nothing falls out.
  • Use a flashlight to look along the sides and back of the glove box area.

Step 2: Release the glove box so it swings down

  • On the right side, locate the small damper arm (a little “shock” that slows the glove box). Use a small flat trim tool to gently pop it off its peg if needed.
  • Push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the stops, then let the glove box swing downward.
  • Tip: Push one side at a time.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Behind the glove box opening, find the rectangular filter cover.
  • Use your fingers or the small flat trim tool to press the cover tabs and pull the cover straight off.

Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Slide the old filter straight out.
  • Wear clean nitrile gloves if it’s dusty.
  • Note how it sits and which way the airflow arrow points before you remove it fully.

Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Compare the new filter to the old one for size and shape.
  • Install the new filter with the airflow arrow pointing down (typical Corolla orientation in this location).
  • Slide it in evenly—don’t bend or crush the filter frame.

Step 6: Reinstall cover and glove box

  • Reinstall the filter cover until it clicks into place by hand.
  • Lift the glove box back up, push the sides inward again, and re-seat the stops.
  • Reattach the right-side damper arm onto its peg (you should feel it snap on).

âś… After Repair

  • Start the engine and run the blower fan on high for 10–15 seconds.
  • Switch between fresh air and recirculation and confirm airflow feels strong.
  • If you hear whistling, recheck that the filter is fully seated and the cover is snapped in.
